ALGERIA VOLLEYBALL Federation will no longer allow foreign players in their local league, starting with the forthcoming 2014/2015 season, which gets underway in May.

The decision will affect Rwanda’s two professionals, including national team captain Christophe Mukunzi (El Fanar) and Lawrence Yakan Guma (L’Etoile Sportif de Setif), who will now have to return home or look for professional clubs in other countries.

Guma has spent three seasons in the Algerian league, while Christopher Mukunzi (El Fanar) only joined El Fanar this season.

Last season, the Algerian volleyball federation allowed all league clubs to field only one foreign player, which meant that El Fanar had to release another Rwandan international Pierre Kwizera Marshal, who signed for newly formed national league side, Rayon Sports.

The decision came after Algeria missed the chance to play at the 2014 FIVB World Championships due later this year in Poland.

Last season, Guma helped L’Etoile Sportif de Setif to win the Super Cup and was named the Most Valuable Player.
