Team Rwanda depart for Algeria tour

Team Rwanda left the country last night ahead of this year’s Algeria International cycling competitions, scheduled to run from March 08-29.

Team Rwanda left the country last night ahead of this year’s Algeria International cycling competitions, scheduled to run from March 08-29.

The strong six-man team include; Gasore Hategeka, Valens Ndayisenga, Joseph Biziyaremye, Jean Bosco Nsengimana, Jeremie Karegeya and Emile Bintunimana.

Team Rwanda, under their American trainer Jonathan Boyer will compete in nine different races, starting with the Critérium International d’Alger on March 8.

Other countries expected to take part include; Holland, German, France, England, Denmark, Eritrea, Morocco and hosts Algeria. It’s the second continental tour that Rwandan riders have taken part this year following the UCU Africa Tour season opener, La Tropicale Amissa Bongo tour in Gabon held in early January. During that tour, Team Rwanda rider Bonaventure Uwizeyimana won Stage Five, Lambarene-Kango (143km) in a time of 3h16’31’. On the way to a historic victory, the 21-year-old Rwandan beat off stiff competition from Moroccan Lahsaini Mouhcine, who crossed the finish line five seconds later, De Troyer Tim (Wanty Groupe Gobert), GENE Yohan (Europcar) and  Eritrean Teshome Meron.
