THE Kigali City Mayor Fidel Ndayisaba believes AS Kigali will continue to make the nation proud by eliminating Sudan’s Al Ahly Shendi to progress to the next round of the Africa Confederation Cup.

Ndayisaba was in the stands as the Kigali City sponsored side snatched a 1-0 win over Al Ahly Shendi in the first leg, first round of the Africa Confederation Cup.

 "We have done everything possible to ensure that AS Kigali writes history in Africa club competition. We want to break the culture of our clubs never progressing past the first round of Africa club competitions,” Ndayisaba said after the game.

"They have played good football right from the preliminary round and we believe with this kind of mentality they will carry on to even qualify to the next round. They have what it takes to reach far in Confederation Cup and we will continue to assist the players in every way possible so as to realise the club’s mission in this competition,” added Ndayisaba.

Going into the second leg due on Sunday in Khartoum, AS Kigali will be boosted by the return of suspended right back Janvier Mutijimana but midfielder Mohammed Mushimiyimana who has been nursing an injury might be used in the second round if they happen to reach there.

AS Kigali’s win was well secured by Rodrique Murengezi who scored a 78th minute goal after meeting Jimmy Mbaraga’s corner, unleashing a shot from the edge of the Al Ahly Shendi penalty area.

The win leaves, Rwanda’s 2013 Peace Cup winners with one foot to the next round of the competition. The Andre Gasambungo team will need a draw of any kind to be assured a place in the 1/8th round of the lucrative continental club competition.
