Caf Confed Cup: 1st Round

First Leg (Saturday)AS Kigali vs Al Ahly Shendi

AS Kigali are in buoyant mood ahead of their first round clash against Sudanese side Al Ahly Shendi in the 2014 Caf Confederation Cup tie due this Saturday at Stade de Kigali.

Rwanda’s peace cup winners AS Kigali reached the first round after eliminating Burundian counterparts Academie Tchite in the preliminary round. It’s AS Kigal’s first time to reach this far in two attempts, following their debut in 2002 under another name, Les Citadins.

Apart from midfielder Muhammed Mushimiyimana, who is out with injury, coach Andre Gasambungo has no other major worries going into the club’s  do or die encounter.

"We know it won’t be an easy game because Al Ahly Shendi is a very strong team and they know how to play these types of games. But we won’t fear them, we cannot afford that. We have big ambitions and will do everything to win the first leg at home,” said Gasambungo.

Al Ahly Shendi has accumulated five points from three matches in the Sudanese Premier League which started on February 5. They have drawn 1-1 against Ahil Al Khartoum and Merreikh El-Fasher respectively and beat Al Ittihad 4-0 last weekend.

The Sudanese team is expected to jet in today afternoon aboard Ethiopian Airways. The team will be accommodated at La Palisse Hotel.
