RWANDA Football Federation (Ferwafa) has written to Zimbabwe and Kenya requesting for friendly matches. If one of the two teams agrees, the match will be played on March 5, the official date for Fifa international friendly matches.

The Ferwafa vice president Veduste Kayiranga, who also doubles as the spokesperson confirmed the development on Wednesday.

"We have made official requests to Kenya and Zimbabwe for a possible friendly match next month. We are waiting for a response,” Kayiranga said.

Head coach Eric Nshimiyimana has a tough challenge in May when the preliminary round of the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers gets underway.

The new qualification system placed Rwanda into the preliminaries, which means Amavubi will have a challenging route to qualify for the Morocco finals.

The qualifying draw will be conducted on April 27 in Cairo, Egypt, after which Rwanda will be able to know their preliminary round opponents.

Unlike in the past where qualifiers had to run the course of approximately a year, the 2015 qualifiers will be held in just three months (September, October and November).

It is for this reason that Nshimiyimana has a lot of work on his desk. He may need a pool of over 35 players to be able to successfully negotiate the fixture congestion.

He will have to choose the best performers in the on-going Turbo King Football league and a few professionals scattered in different parts of the world before May.
