The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) has congratulated Rwandan peace Cup champions AS Kigali for making it to the next round of the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

In a communiqué sent to media houses from Cecafa, the clubs that made it past the preliminary round have been urged to continue lifting the regional flags high when they face their next opponents.

"Cecafa wishes to congratulate its member association clubs that made it to the next round of both the Orange Caf Champions League and the Orange Caf Confederations Cup,”

"To all other clubs that bowed out of the competitions in the preliminary rounds, you are urged to look back to the possible mistakes and work on them for future results.”

"Special thanks to debutant South Sudan’s Atlabara FC for a respected exit against Ghana’s Berekum Chelsea. Atlabara who were making their first appearance since South Sudan joined the Cecafa family won 2-0 in Juba before losing on the same margin in Accra. Their ejection followed a 3-0 loss on penalties, read the communique for Cecafa in part.

Apart from AS Kigali, other clubs include Kenyan duo of AC Leopards and Gor Mahia, Tanzanian side, Young Africans (Yanga), Ugandan side, KCC, Flambeau de l'est FC of Burundi, Dedebit FC of Ethiopia and Al Hilal of Sudan.

AS Kigali exhibited an outstanding performance in the preliminary round, which assured them a place in the first round of Caf Confederation Cup.

After winning the first leg, Andre Gasambungo’s side played a 1-all draw in Burundi to go through 2-1 on aggregates. They will meet Alhy Shandy of Sudan in the 1/16th round next month.
