Defender Clement Niyigena is back to full training at APR after four months on the sidelines.

Niyigena has not featured for the army side since April after he had an "undisclosed" disease which was initially thought to be malaria until further medical screening proved otherwise.

Niyigena has now fully recovered and Times Sport can confirm that he has been having training sessions with the first team.

He could return to action with APR after the international break when the Rwandan league champions welcome Musanze FC in a Primus National League fixture which will take place at the Kigali Pele Stadium on September 16.

The former Rayon Sports player was arguably one of the best centre-backs in the league scoring four goals including a late dramatic winner against then Rwamagana City, now Muhazi United, in Ngoma in a 3-2 victory on October 10, 2022.

His absence was one of the reasons why APR struggled in defense in the 2022/23 season before they eventually beat Kiyovu Sports to the league title.
