It is important for every Rwandan to learn what insurance is all about right from when they are in school, Jean Pierre Majoro, the Rwanda Association of Insurers executive secretary, has said.

"We are still negotiating with the government to see whether we can add some insurance classes in the education curricular because many people don’t know about the sector. It is one of the reasons why Rwanda has no actuarial scientist,” he said in an interview with the Education Times recently.

"Since insurance is a big part of the financial sector pillars under the Second Economic and Poverty Reduction Strategy, we are looking toward working with the government to improve general knowledge in insurance.”

Last November, the College of Business and Economics (CBE) hosted UAP insurance Rwanda for a career talk to enlighten the students on various careers in the insurance industry and other aspects.

The students were excited and took advantage of the three-hour session to inquire more about the career, the pay and career progress opportunities in the sector.

Donatha Umurungi, a part-time student at the institution, encouraged more of such initiatives to enlighten students about various professions that lie ahead.

"Most of you are very knowledgeable about the insurance industry which shows you are keen about it. We have programmes to engage you and we shall keep making arrangements to reach out to you,” said Pauline Wanjohi, the chief executive officer of the insurance firm.
