Miss University of Rwanda College of Business and Economics (CBE) 2013/14, Samantha Ghislaine Uwase has been stripped of her crown.

According to a communiqué signed by the institution’s principal, DR. Papias Musafiri, this action was taken after Uwase was allegedly implicated in examination malpractices at the former School of Finance and Banking, (SFB).

"Miss Samantha Ghislaine Uwase should therefore neither be known nor represent the College of Business and Economics as Miss CBE 2013/14,” the communiqué dated January 29 reads in part.

The first-year student has held the title since October last year.

As a result Uwase also ceases to enjoy all the privileges she was entitled to as Miss CBE with immediate effect. They include a scholarship and free accommodation.

Other than the privileges, she had also received a cash award of Rwf100, 000 and other goodies from the pageant sponsors- Simba Supermarket and Sulfo Industries.

When Uwase was crowned last year, she termed it a ‘dream come true’, and pledged to advocate for the welfare of students as well as positively represent the institution. But this dream seems to be shattered following these developments.

Although details of the exact malpractice she was involved in are sketchy, students who talked to this paper said the former Beauty queen sat for a paper on behalf of a colleague.

Efforts to reach Uwase have been futile, as she is out of reach by phone and has not been spotted at the College since being stripped of the title.
