There is more that employers are looking for than just high academic qualifications. Just like skills and experience are important, attitude is key as well.

Your dictionary defines attitude as a manner of acting, feeling, or thinking that shows one’s disposition, opinion and so forth.

According to Sky Dennis, the CEO of a logistics firm, respect for others is not an attitude that most employees possess, yet it’s required at the job.

He believes that regardless of how knowledgeable you’re at your job, without respect, you may miss out on great virtues, or opportunities.

According to him, people with respect know how to treat others, their bosses, co-workers and clients—they are kind and professional that if they don’t know anything, they ask for help, and if they offend you, they rush to apologise so as to create a safe and comfortable workplace.

Dennis points out that respectful people listen to others’ views and opinions accordingly, even when they don’t agree with them, they don’t rush to judge or try to water down other’s beliefs or school of thoughts.

He also stresses that commitment to one’s job is also an important attitude. For him, a number of employees easily lose the purpose for which they’re at their job and just wait for a paycheck at the end of the month.

However, those who are committed to their jobs work as though the company is theirs, they work towards company goals, and provide ideas that will assist the company to grow.

Additionally, Dennis says that the ability to assist other co-workers is very important, whether helping them with skills, tools, ideas, or any kind of assistance.

He points out that people feel comfortable being around people that are kind and helpful.

Dennis carries on that dependability is an attitude to have, as such employees are punctual and also produce great work, they can be relied on by both their colleagues and bosses—such people also enjoy working as a team thus resulting in productive outcomes.

"Have you come across arrogant workers? They’re hard to approach, especially those who think they know it all? But humility is a trait all employees require, knowing that you make it easy for people to approach you. Also, honesty is a must-have trait. No one wants to work with untrustworthy employees,” he states.

Iryn Kirabo, a businesswoman and media personality, states that confidence is a great attitude that most employers are searching for.

She notes that employees who are confident to try out tasks, however challenging they may be, are not laid back, but rather show the eagerness to learn—they encourage their fellow employees to take risks in tasks they think are hard, and the experience comes with lessons.

Kirabo carries on that employees with a creative aspect impact the company so much, this is because they do research and come up with new ideas or polish the existing ones which can enable the company to be successful.

She also carries on that employees who are great problem-solvers make work more interesting, for instance, they offer their best efforts to seek solutions.

For Kirabo, generous employees are worth having as well, they share their ideas, expertise and knowledge with others. They love mentoring their new colleagues so as they are well knowledgeable and skilled by how work operates. It is believed that knowledge is only power when it’s shared with others.

Experts say that great employees are those that contribute positively to the company. They take initiatives or provide suggestions. Employees with a positive attitude are those who work to help achieve greater goals for the company. Plus, they are great people to be around with their positive character.
