Cynthia Rupari is the CEO and co-founder of Rupari Agency. For those who shop online, there is also a web shop. The soft-spoken Rupari talked to Society Magazine’s Doreen Umutesi about how fashion is a way of life. How would you describe your fashion sense? My dress sense is actually described by the mixture of African print with oriental materials.  They are all affordable; exclusive and wearableWhat’s your favourite clothing item? Don’t know where to start! I like everything that I put on and look good, of course depending on the occasion. Here I can mention three items: corporate cloths for work; casual wear when relaxing and long dresses for special occasions.Where do you shop for clothes?Shopping is one of my passions, but I rarely find what I really want to buy in shops of Kigali either for myself or good materials to make clothes for my clients. This is why I prefer ordering stuff online, which is expensive for me and sometimes takes longer to be delivered. What do you consider when shopping for clothes? First, as a designer, I look at the material of the cloth and compare it to its price! But when I order in Europe or the USA I always prefer famous brands.Second, I never wear or advise someone to wear clothes without putting on accessories. Here, I take my time and look at the colours and design of the cloth which inspires me to know the kind of accessory that would match the cloth. What is your favourite fashion accessory? I love a pearl necklace and earrings on long dresses (especially black), and big earrings locally made on casual dresses. I always give them as gifts to my relatives and clients living abroad. What is your favourite clothing item on a guy? Laughs.  For me, a guy who wears blue jeans with a nice shirt or t-shirt and if necessary a jacket is always smart. I would like to add something else, but will keep it for now.  What’s your favourite scent? I love Warm Vanilla! I use it every morning and feel so relaxed. But my favourite perfume is Vanitas Versace. I have used it for the last two years.  Any fashion advice? Fashion for me is an art; an individual statement of expressing oneself and natural beauty through clothing. There are hints about who you are in what you wear.Fashion is not something that exists only in clothes; it is a general way of living.
