THE Minister of Sports and Culture Protais Mitali has urged the new Ferwafa boss Vincent Degaule Nzamwita to devise means of taking football to an outstanding level. Mitali made the appeal recently while meeting the new Ferwafa executive committee at Amahoro stadium, Mitali told the new elected chairman to work hard in improving the level of football and to put much emphasis on the national teams such that they can make improvements compared to last year’s performances. "Don’t put much emphasis on detecting young players alone but also improve the national teams most especially on the playing and the winning mentality,” Amavubi staged mediocre performances last year which saw them being kicked out of the CHAN, African Nations’ Cup, World Cup finals, Cecafa Challenge Cup while the U20 and U17 were also ejected out of the first round of African Cup of Nations. Nzamwita is not a new face in domestic football as he has served as general secretary at APR FC in the early 2000s and was part of the leadership at Intare FC, a second division side based in Huye. He believes that his administration will start from where the ongoing committee stopped. "We need to do everything we can to improve the level of our football and this will help to see our teams go to another level of playing”"We will give an opportunity to the young Rwandan players because they are the future of this country’s football success.” "We are going to focus on increasing sponsorship of all the divisions in all categories. We are tasking the marketing team to do their job and bring in enough funds to run the game and get us to where we want to be because with sufficient finances we shall go places.” At present, it is only the men’s top division that is funded by Turbo King who are title sponsors as well as the women’s championship which is funded by FIFA. The second division lacks a sponsor and so does the children’s league that was started recently to enhance more competition for young boys below the age of 16.
