Burundian midfielder Richard Kirongozi was a delight to watch him scoring as Kiyovu Sports beat city rivals AS Kigali 2-0 at Kigali Stadium on Saturday afternoon to register their first win of the season.

It was a game which lived to expectations with both teams exhibiting delightful football as the Green Baggies proved to be the superior side.

Kiyovu had a bright start to the game with new signing Richard Kirongozi scoring inside three minutes to give his side the lead with a fabulous effort.

The early goal destabilized AS Kigali who had to chase the game as they found it hard having a braeakthrough.

AS Kigali’s attack led by Antoine Dominique Ndayishimiye and Kevin Ebene had a couple of decent chances but they hardly put them to good use.

Midfielder Oliver Niyonzima controlled the game as he dictated the pace of the game against his former side.

The first half ended with Kiyovu Sports being the better side and leading 1-0 at the break.

After recess, André Casa Mbungo’s side decided to hold their fort at the back and play on the counter Petros Koukouras had already decided to let his men hold on to the ball in order to draw the AS Kigali out of their shells.

Fred Muhozi had an impressive game as he operated as the schemer scored 53rd minute goal to double Kiyovu’s lead over the Citizens.

The goal further spoilt AS Kigali’s game plan as the Green Baggies bombarded their vital area with a series of attacks.

AS Kigali could have conceded more goals but their star goalkeeper Yves Kimenyi pulled a couple of great saves against his former team to keep his side in the game.

There were few chances in the final quarter of the game before referee Samuel Uwikunda blew his final whistle to end match with a 2-0 result in favor of Kiyovu.

Other games

Cedric Kubwimana’s 58th minute penalty was enough for Mukura Victory to beat Marines FC 1-0 at Huye Stadium. Mukura were reduced to ten men in the 81st minute following a red card but they held on their nerves to take home all three points.

Elsewhere at Ubworoherane Stadium, star striker Peter Agblevor scored his third goal of the season as Musanze beat Bugesera 1-0. The Ghanaian forward netted the match winner in the 76th minute.

Also at the "Golgotha" Stadium in Nyagatare, an 85th minute goal from Vincent Habamahoro proved to be the match winner as Sunrise FC beat Etoile de l&039;Est 1-0.
