Six clubs to grace Youth Athletics Championships

SIX local clubs have confirmed participation in the second edition of the national youth championships scheduled for Saturday at Amahoro national stadium.

SIX local clubs have confirmed participation in the second edition of the national youth championships scheduled for Saturday at Amahoro national stadium.The first edition took place in 2010 and it hasn’t been held since then due to lack of funds by the clubs and federation, according to Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) Secretary General Johnson Rukundo.The six clubs include; APR Athletics Club, Nyamasheke, Rwamagana, Rubavu-based Vision Jeunesse, Gicumbi-based Mountain Classic and SEC Academy.Johnson Rukondo (inset) said that the tournament will also double as qualifiers of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone V Youth Championships scheduled to take place from February 12 to 14 in Cairo, Egypt.The best performers in Egypt will qualify for the African Youth Athletics Championship scheduled for May 16-17 in Maputo, Mozambique.The Maputo Games will also serve as qualifiers of this year’s Youth Olympic Games slated for August 14-28 in Nanjing, China.
