The year 2013 is ending and the   world is waiting to celebrate the beginning of 2014. Already people have   prepared   plans of how to celebrate itIndividuals greet one another wishing for more happiness, peace, prosperity and good things in the coming new    year. But while celebrating it and having fun, people also need to relevance of the new year. These   festive occasions are   celebrated with family and friends.  They remind us of the importance of family and friends in life. One may be very rich in material wealth but can enjoy life only if he has friends and a family. Hence it is important to maintain good ties with them by being considerate, understanding   and loving. The New Year celebrations are meant to usher in the coming year and   bid farewell to the passing  one. This has a deep significance. As such every day of our life is new.  No day passed ever returns. Hence every day is important.New Year should be celebrated with that spirit. One should forget the mistakes and failures of the past and move ahead with a new determination. All people are prone to mistakes but it is not wise to ponder over the past mistakes and feel depressed. Despair affects the future prospects of an individual thus obstructing their path to success. A prudent person learns from his   past mistakes, tries to rectify them and makes renewed efforts to succeed. Thus, sooner or later, he becomes successful in his venture.New Year   is also the day to signify the cycle of life and this should be understood by people. Each day alternates with a night. Good times alternate with bad times in life.  One should remain humble and kind when tidings are good and not be depressed when things go wrong. If a person recalls all what he has done in the previous year, he will realise how fast the year has gone. In a blink, days of the new  year also start rushing after January 1.  The same thing happens with life. It is too short and years pass away rapidly. Therefore, wisdom lies in making the best of it. Trying to improve life in a positive way by all means and helping others for doing so.May this festive season bring joy, good health and prosperity for all.Dr Rachna Pande is a specialist in internal medicine at Ruengeri Hospital
