DJ Focus, real name James Gwiza, was born in 1984 in Mombasa, Kenya. He comes from a family of four. His father, Philip Setakwe, died in the Liberation Struggle.

He relocated to Uganda where he lived with his Uncle in Kasese. He came to Rwanda in July 1994 and resumed his primary education at Camp Kigali up to 1997. He practically spent his childhood alone, his mother and siblings lived in Uganda but he chose to come to Rwanda because he had always wanted to live in Rwanda.

Since he was young, he developed interest in music. he joined the entertainment industry in 2001 and became a DJ in 2003. He started practicing as a DJ in clubs and bars in Kampala. In 2005, he returned -to Rwanda. He is currently one of the best DJ’s in town.
