50 acquire ICT skills

At least 50 students from various schools on Friday received certificates in basic ICT skills. The training, conducted by SOS Children’s Village, was sponsored by Western Union and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).The training was held at SOS Technical School in Kinyinya, the same venue from where the students received their certificates in a ceremony officiated by Andre Murengezi, the National Education Coordinator, SOS Rwanda.This initiative targeted students from vulnerable families, specifically in Kinyinya Sector.Speaking to Education Times, some of the students said the training helped them understand more of what they had not understood at school."I have greatly benefited from this training; I can now use Ms Excel and MS PowerPoint. I also now know more tricks on how to use Ms Word. I am sure that I have I learnt something new altogether,” said Nicole Mutegwaraba, a senior five student at Butare ET Save secondary school.  She said the training also offered them the opportunity to interact and learn from one another. The trainees, she added, discovered that schools move at totally different pace, something she said made the training more interesting.Moise Mbarushimana, another student in Kinyinya Sector, said the skills they acquired will give them a chance to try a career in ICT.Murengezi also said the training helped them to remain focused during the long holidays.
