Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) staff member has been honoured for outstanding academic performance at Walden University, one of the prestigious universities in the United States of America.

Emmanuel Kayitare, Director of Pension and Pre-retirement Benefits Department at RSSB currently pursuing a doctorate in Public Policy, majoring in Policy Analysis at Walden University, has been a star performer, scoring a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0, an equivalent of an average score of 90 and above in all of his research papers, thus emerging as one of the best students in the world.

To recognize his outstanding academic performance, Walden University has granted Kayitare a membership to the "Golden Key International Honour Society”. This is the world's largest collegiate honour society created in the U.S. in 1977 to provide academic recognition to high-achieving students, and establish professional and social contacts for these students within a network of universities.

Membership into the Society is by invitation only and applies to Genius College and university sophomores and top-performing graduate students in all fields of study, based solely on their academic achievements.  Golden key currently operates in 400 reputable universities in the world.  In Africa, it operates in South Africa.

On his achievement, Kayitare commented: "It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I do not have words to describe my feelings! It is a wonderful blessing from God.”

RSSB Director General, Mrs KANTENGWA Angelique congratulated Kayitare: "As RSSB, we are very proud and honoured to see our Staff member excelling at a global level with such an excellent academic performance. Kayitare is not only a star performer in class but also at work.  Immense congratulations to him! RSSB will continue to support him and other staff members to sharpen their knowledge and skills.”

He says that the achievement will contribute to RSSB’s efficiency: "My thesis is on the social security coverage issues and coverage is one of the challenges RSSB has been facing. Being a member of this society will enable me to gather inputs from experts in the field, hence crafting a thesis that will significantly contribute to the mitigation of the social security coverage challenges. Information exchange and experience sharing with experts in diverse fields will contribute to RSSB’s operational efficiency.”

Kayitare attributes his performance to the initiative of the RSSB Director General who has prioritised capacity development as a way of dealing with capacity related issues to increase efficiency.

Kayitare has an outstanding academic track-record. In 2002 while studying at the National University of Rwanda, he was the only student in the faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Management who graduated with a grand distinction. He is set to obtain a Ph.D at Walden University in 2014.
