Umuganda is a powerful catalyst for community cohesion and individual responsibility. You do not have to be rich or poor to clean and built your community, said Giants of Africa co-founder Masai Ujiri.

In an interview with The New Times during Giants of Africa Umuganda, Ujiri who is also Toronto Raptors president and vice-chair also noted that Umuganda, a monthly community work, fits well within the framework of "youth-focused initiative and as a universal symbol of progress.”

"Instilling in these young minds the essence of community is very important,” said Ujiri adding that Umuganda embodies the cleanliness seen across Rwanda.

Drawing from his personal experience in Umuganda, Ujiri said: "the few moments I have taken part in Umuganda, I felt the zeal and the attachment Rwandans have to their communities. The genesis development lies within one's domestic sphere.”

Throughout the last seven days of Giants of Africa Festival, attendants have engaged in several activities beyond stops including Umuganda.
