Espoir’s Ngangu named MVP

Espoir Basketball Club’s Guard Bievenu Ngandu was on Sunday named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 season, while Kigali Basketball Club forward Mike Buzangu finished as the season’s top scorer 294 points.

Espoir Basketball Club’s Guard Bievenu Ngandu was on Sunday named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 season, while Kigali Basketball Club forward Mike Buzangu finished as the season’s top scorer 294 points.Former APR player Buzangu helped the 2011 league champions KBC to finish in second position in the regular season league and was also important for them as they reached the final of the Playoffs finals, where they were beaten 3-1 by defending champions Espoir.Ngandu succeeds teammate Aristide Mugabe as the season’s MVP after playing a key role in Espoir’s run to retaining both the regular league and the Playoffs titles. Espoir lost just one game the whole season, having gone through the previous one with an unbeaten record.In the women category, Rwanda Allied Peace for Progress’s Cecile Nzaramba was named the MVP.  She finished as top scorer with 249 points.Rosine Micomyiza of APR was named the Most Improved Player in the women category, while KBC’s Ali Kubwimana got the nod in the men’s category.Espoir’s Jean Bahufite was named the best coach; best referee was Didier Gaga; Rusizi (men) and RAPP (women) were named best teams. The best Club Chairman was Fidele Rutagarama of Espoir, while best reporter was Sidick Nsengiyumva of Radio 10.Rwanda Basketball Federation, for the second year, organised an All Stars game played on Sunday at Amahoro indoor stadium, which ended with the ‘Team All Stars B’ coached by KBC’s Cyrile Kalima beating ‘Team All Stars B’ under Bahufite 74-68.Team A started well and won the first and second quarter 19-18, 16-14, before Team B recovered to take the subsequent two quarters 21-19 and 23-12.Olivier Shyaka scored a game high 23 points and Mike Buzangu and 18 points, respectively, for team A, while Lionel Hakizimana and Nesto Manzi scored 12 points each for Team B.After the All Stars game, both Espoir and APR (women) were handed their league and Playoffs trophies.
