Am I weak because I don’t worship soccer?

First, I must admit that if not watching soccer games is a crime, then I’m guilty. I know ignorance of law is no excuse but to be honest, I didn’t know that it was an offense until last Sunday when there was a battle between Arsenal and Manchester.

First, I must admit that if not watching soccer games is a crime, then I’m guilty. I know ignorance of law is no excuse but to be honest, I didn’t know that it was an offense until last Sunday when there was a battle between Arsenal and Manchester. Is it just me or do soccer fans all over the world behave like Jehovah’s Witnesses trying to convert anyone they come across? I don’t know if they are unaware of the existence of other sports and games or do they simply choose to ignore other people’s tastes in other kinds of sports and declare them guilty of not supporting the ‘number one game’.These people believe human beings should be born-again football fans or else they will go to hell. My ex-girlfriend happened to be not just a fan but a soccer crusader, I respected her and even settled and accepted to be her number two (because soccer came first). I used to put up with her mood swings and I made thousands of cups of coffee to console her whenever her team lost (which was often if you ask me). I also played the good boyfriend and listened to her stories of how the soccer match went from the first whistle to the last. Not to mention the ugly soccer posters in the house, vuvuzelas and jerseys everywhere. Well, as a partner, I guess being supportive is what is expected of us.Anyway, last Sunday the lady lost it when her team was thumped to near pulp. I don’t know how the game went or how many goals her team pocketed, but one thing I know is it didn’t go well. It was written all over her face when she came back that evening.I must admit it was unfair of me to joke about it. "You got your underside kicked again huh?” I asked jokingly. If I say hell broke loose it would definitely be an understatement. She unleashed all the anger and frustration she had collected throughout the season on me.I managed to stomach most of her insults but the straw that broke my back was when she said I’m not man enough. That that’s why I sit home when ‘real-men’ are out there playing or watching soccer. That’s why my male batteries are always low (by the way it’s not true). That evening she packed her bags and left, I didn’t try to stop her. I was also tired of being the other man.
