After several years away from recording, gospel singer Jackie Mbabazi Mugabo is making a comeback, having released two new songs recently, with more in the pipeline.

The UK-based musician had taken a break from recording to focus on charity work, supporting vulnerable women and children. She says she is now ready to return to music.

With a career spanning nearly two decades, she is the voice behind gospel songs such as Akira Mwami and Nshuti Idahinduka. She has also previously served as a pastor in Kigali.

Speaking to The New Times, Mbabazi explained the inspiration behind her return to recording music. She noted that one of her new songs, Niwe Ubikoze, released about a month ago, reflects on recent events in her family, including her son's recovery from lymphoma in 2018 and his wedding earlier this year.

"I think that inspiration came when my son told me that he's going to get married. That is why my new song came in,” she said.

"I flashed back and tried to see what God has done in my life and family; how He healed my son and he's now cancer free, and how all my children are serving God,” she added.

Her 24-year-old son underwent nearly six months of chemotherapy. He recovered and was declared cancer-free later.

Speaking about her second new song titled Ibyo Nkuziho released this week, Mbabazi said it is about God's grace and how it helps people through difficult times.

"There are many people who have gone through ups and downs but because of the grace of God, they are still alive,” she said.

"There are people who will listen to this song. Maybe they are going through trials and tribulations, but they will know that God can take them out of what they are going through,” she added.

The musician said she plans to record more songs, adding that her music is driven by a desire to praise God and share her experiences with others.

Mbabazi started singing around 2008. Since then, she has performed at Namboole Stadium in Uganda and in the UK, France and Canada.
