Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international anchor, announced Monday she will leave the network in June 2027 after 43 years.
The 68-year-old's daily programs on CNN and PBS will end in December. She will host a weekly CNN show through May 2027 and depart at the end of June, she said in a pre-recorded video statement.
Amanpour joined CNN in 1983 as an assistant and rose to prominence as a reporter covering major conflicts, including the first Gulf War, Bosnia, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Iran.
In her statement she thanked her teams and said she looks forward to "interesting new projects.” She will continue her podcast, "The Ex Files,” with her ex-husband Jamie Rubin.
CNN chairman Mark Thompson said the two had discussed the move for months and called it the right time for her both personally and professionally.
