Chief Justice and Supreme Court President Domitilla Mukantaganzwa urged newly sworn-in judges and court registrars to guard against corruption, nepotism, and personal interests that could undermine the delivery of justice.

Mukantaganzwa made the remarks on Thursday, October 15, after the swearing-in of seven judges and eight court clerks.

She reminded them that their responsibility is to serve all citizens fairly, regardless of personal relationships or other considerations that could interfere with their professional duties.

"To provide the justice that Rwandans desire, we must set aside emotions, corruption in all its manifestations and nepotism. We must do everything possible to ensure that Rwandans are truly served,” she said.

Mukantaganzwa also reminded the newly sworn-in court officials that misconduct within the judiciary can have serious consequences, citing past cases in which members of the institution were dismissed over corruption.

Théophile Ntezimana, sworn in as president of a primary court, said his experience in the judiciary strengthened his commitment to serving the public diligently and ensuring people receive justice.

"What we are striving for is to provide justice to Rwandans. We were already working in the judiciary. What we are going to provide is strength, work diligently, and provide good justice,” he said.
