Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of Fred Mugaba, a resident of Gisozi sector in Gasabo District.
The incident was reported in Musezero Cell in the night of October 10–11, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has said.
Mugaba was reportedly employed by a microfinance institution in Gasabo District.
RIB spokesperson Thierry Murangira told The New Times that investigation began immediately after the incident was reported and it is still ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding Mugaba’s death.
Murangira confirmed the arrests but did not disclose details of the preliminary findings or the circumstances that led to Mugaba’s death.
He added that the family of the deceased had been informed of the preliminary findings, while investigations continue.
Regarding the information circulated on social media alleging that Mugaba was killed by foreign nationals residing in Kigali, Murangira dismissed the claims, saying preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation did not indicate the involvement of any foreign national.
"At this stage, the investigation indicates that no foreign national was involved in this death. We urge the public to refrain from spreading rumours and disinformation, as doing so constitutes a criminal offence.
"People should be particularly cautious of individuals who spread rumours on social media, as they may have malicious intentions,” he added.
Murangira also extended condolences to Mugaba’s family, assuring them that anyone found responsible would be held accountable in accordance with the law.
