Rayon Sports’ difficult start to the 2026/27 BK Pro League season continued on Friday evening as an unfortunate own goal by defender Didier Nshutinziza handed Gorilla FC a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Kigali Pelé Stadium.
The Matchday Four encounter was a closely contested affair, with both sides battling for control but creating few clear-cut scoring opportunities.
Rayon Sports enjoyed spells of possession and showed determination to bounce back from their inconsistent start to the campaign. However, Gorilla FC remained disciplined and well-organised defensively, frustrating the hosts throughout the match.
The decisive moment came in the 54th minute when Nshutinziza inadvertently turned a dangerous cross into his own net while attempting to clear the ball from the penalty area.
The unfortunate mistake gave Gorilla FC the lead, and the visitors held on until the final whistle to secure all three points. Rayon Sports struggled to find a breakthrough as they searched in vain for an equaliser against a resolute Gorilla FC defence.
The defeat adds to Rayon Sports’ early-season struggles, leaving the Blues with mounting pressure to find consistency and regain momentum as the campaign progresses.
Kigali FC end winless run against Gicumbi FC
Earlier in the day, Kigali FC secured their first victory of the season with a narrow 1-0 win over league leaders Gicumbi FC.
Yves Habimana scored the decisive goal in the 31st minute, finishing off an assist from Mangubu Patrick Baombolia to give Kigali FC a deserved lead.
Kigali FC dominated large spells of the encounter and created several scoring opportunities, but Gicumbi goalkeeper Nahimana Jonathan produced a series of important saves to keep his side in contention.
Despite suffering their first defeat of the campaign, Gicumbi FC remain top of the BK Pro League standings.
