The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has scheduled elections for a new president in January 2027.

The new president will replace outgoing president Fabrice Shema, who stepped down from his position on September 29 amid a court case and issues related to personal integrity and conduct. His resignation brought an end to his tenure and triggered the federation’s succession procedures.

In the meantime, Claudine Gasarabwe, who previously served as FERWAFA’s First Vice President in charge of Finance and Legal Affairs, has assumed leadership of the federation on an interim basis. She will oversee the organisation’s day-to-day operations until a substantive president is elected.

FERWAFA officials said the Executive Committee, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, will convene an Extraordinary General Assembly ahead of the January 2027 elections. The assembly is expected to establish the electoral roadmap and oversee the process leading to the election of a new president.
