The national football team, Amavubi, and its staff received a heroes’ welcome on Friday upon arriving at Kigali International Airport from Cape Verde.

Rwanda secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Cape Verde in a Group K encounter at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde on Tuesday, September 29.

The victory maintained Amavubi’s perfect start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, giving the team a maximum six points from its opening two matches and placing Rwanda at the top of Group K.

Many fans turned out at the airport to welcome the team home. Dressed in the colours of the national flag, supporters cheered the players and delegation, chanting popular songs, including "Burya Umugabo” and "Tsinda we batsinde.”

Fans also carried banners bearing messages such as, "Congratulations Amavubi,” and "Rwanda is proud of you. Keep shining and making Rwanda proud.”

The team received a fanfare reception from the enthusiastic supporters after a long and challenging journey back home from Cape Verde.
