Construction in Nyabisindu Cell of Remera Sector and Nyagatovu Cell of Kimironko Sector is expected to be completed by May 2027.
The project was launched in May 2025 to replace informal settlements with 2,029 modern housing units for vulnerable families.
"Works are progressing well, with the project also delivering improved roads, drainage systems and public spaces to support safe, inclusive and well-planned neighbourhoods in Kigali,” the City of Kigali said.
A photo tour of the rehousing sites shows that some of the housing units are nearing completion.
"We have reached 41 per cent,” one of the project supervisors told The New Times on Thursday.
The design and construction of the Nyabisindu project will cost Rwf62.9 billion, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA) and the City of Kigali.
The real estate development covers more than 38 hectares and comprises 58 housing blocks.
The houses are designed as G+3 buildings.
A G+3 block is a building consisting of a ground floor and three additional floors, making a total of four levels. The "G” stands for ground floor, while "+3” refers to the three upper floors.
This type of building is commonly used in residential and commercial construction to maximise space, particularly in urban areas.

The project also includes a school, a market, a football pitch, green spaces and roads.
The project currently employs about 2,100 workers.
More than Rwf616 million has been allocated to support temporary accommodation for affected households in Nyabisindu until June 2027.
A further Rwf309.6 million has been earmarked for the 2026/27 financial year.
Construction works are being carried out by the Reserve Force, which implemented a similar project known as the Mpazi Rehousing Project in Nyarugenge District.
Most of the construction materials, including bricks, stones, sand, cement and steel, are locally produced.
