More than 5,900 delegates are expected in Kigali for the fifth Africa HealthTech Summit, which will begin from September 30 to October 2.

The summit will bring together health leaders, policymakers, technology experts, investors and innovators from across Africa.

The summit, to be held at the Kigali Convention Centre, will focus on the use of technology to prevent illness and improve healthcare under the theme "Wellness for all: Powered by intelligent health systems.”

Artificial intelligence will feature in discussions on early detection, patient safety and sovereign AI, alongside digital public infrastructure and health data.

Primary healthcare will be discussed with a focus on digitalisation, community health systems and governance, while sessions on sexual and reproductive health and rights will cover family planning, gender equity and solutions for young people.

The delegates will also discuss non-communicable diseases and mental health, including disease prevention, mental health care and digital therapeutics.

Health innovation financing will be another focus, with discussions on how African health technologies can secure funding to move from proof of concept to wider use.

Among the speakers listed for the summit are Africa CDC Director-General Dr Jean Kaseya, Rwanda’s Minister of Health Dr Sabin Nsanzimana and Minister of ICT and Innovation Paula Ingabire. They include Angola's Minister of Health Dr Sílvia Paula Valentim Lutucuta and Uganda’s Minister of Health Dr Chris Baryomunsi, among others.

The summit will also host a consultation on the draft African Continental Health Data Governance Framework on September 30. Organised by Africa CDC and Transform Health, the consultation will bring together governments, regional institutions, civil society, academia, youth and women’s groups, innovators and the private sector.
