Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva on Wednesday, September 23, held bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Kuwait Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and advancing shared priorities.

According to UN, Nsengiyumva and Guterres also discussed the security situation in eastern DR Congo and ongoing peace efforts.

Nsengiyumva is in New York representing President Paul Kagame at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The session opened on September 8, with the General Debate beginning on September 22. The debate will run through September 26, with the high-level session continuing until September 28.

The annual General Debate brings together heads of state, heads of government and other high-level representatives to outline their positions and priorities on global issues.

This year’s session is held under the theme, "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”
