Rwandan Security Forces deployed in Mozambique joined residents of Palma District in a community clean-up exercise on Tuesday, September 22, as part of efforts to promote sanitation and strengthen cooperation with local communities.

The exercise, organised by Palma District authorities, was held at Palma Secondary School as part of World Annual Clean-Up Day activities. It brought together residents, local authorities, Mozambican security organs and other stakeholders.

Palma District Administrator João Agostinho Buchili commended the initiative, saying maintaining proper sanitation was important in preventing diseases and keeping the community healthy.

He also recognised the continued support of the Rwandan forces to the local community, alongside their role in contributing to peace and security in the area.

During the activity, the Rwandan forces also donated books and sports kits to Palma Secondary School to support learning and encourage students&039; participation in sports.

Rwanda deployed its first joint security force to Cabo Delgado in July 2021 at the request of the Mozambican government after insurgent attacks destabilised the province, displaced thousands of civilians and threatened major economic projects.

Rwandan forces and the Mozambican army have helped restore security in several districts, enabling displaced residents to return to their homes, schools and health facilities to reopen, businesses to resume operations.

The improved security has also created conditions for major liquefied natural gas projects in the province to resume, while Mozambican security institutions have continued to strengthen their capacity.
