Col (Rtd) Jeannot Ruhunga began his new role as Rwanda's ambassador to Poland on Friday, September 18, after presenting copies of his Letters of Credence to the country’s deputy foreign minister.

He presented the copies of his credentials to Wojciech Zajączkowski, Deputy Minister at Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Warsaw on Friday, September 18.

Ruhunga replaced Ambassador Anastase Shyaka, who had served as Rwanda’s ambassador to Poland since 2021.

According to Rwanda’s Embassy in Warsaw, Zajączkowski and Ruhunga discussed ways of strengthening relations between Rwanda and Poland across areas of bilateral interest.

Ruhunga thanked the Polish official for the welcome and hospitality extended to him since his arrival in the country.

He said Rwanda considers Poland a friendly, reliable, and trusted partner and expressed his commitment to deepening relations between the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to maintain dialogue, exchanges and other engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

Ruhunga was appointed ambassador to Poland on June 10. He served as the Secretary General of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), from April 2018 to March 2025. He was replaced by Col Pacifique Kayigamba Kabanda.

He was the first Secretary General of RIB, when the bureau was established to take over specialised functions previously handled by the Rwanda National Police, including criminal investigations, crime intelligence and investigations into economic and financial crimes.

At the time, Ruhunga was serving as acting head of J2 at Rwanda Defence Force headquarters, in charge of military intelligence and security. He had previously served as a judge at the Rwanda Military Tribunal and as Commissioner of Intelligence in the Rwanda National Police.
