Tanzania produced a commanding first-half performance to defeat Rwanda 3-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U20 CECAFA Qualifiers at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, September 15.

The hosts took control with three unanswered goals before halftime, leaving Rwanda with a mountain to climb after the break.

After a closely contested opening 30 minutes, Faraji Kayanda broke the deadlock in the 30th minute to give Tanzania the lead.

The hosts continued to press forward and doubled their advantage seven minutes later through Djuma Abushiri.

Rwanda struggled to contain Tanzania’s attacking threat, and the hosts struck again just before halftime when Evastus Lukanima scored in the 41st minute to put Tanzania firmly in control at 3-0.

The three-goal first-half burst proved decisive as Tanzania comfortably managed the game after the break to secure an important victory in the regional qualifying tournament.

The result strengthens Tanzania’s hopes of progressing to the U20 AFCON, while Andre Casa Mbungo and his young Wasps will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture against Ethiopia.
