Rwanda head coach Frédéric Guérin has dropped Matheus Bettim from his final 14-man squad for the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Championship, which will take place in Tunisia from September 13–26.

A reliable source told Times Sport that Bettim, who joined the training camp after replacing Merci Gisubizo, failed to make the final squad due to unresolved issues surrounding his Rwandan citizenship.

Also left out of the squad are Alex Rwanyonga, Alain Irakoze and Nalon Enzo Ganza.

The Rwandan team is expected to depart for Tunisia on Saturday, September 12, where it will join 15 other nations in the continental championship.

The participating teams are Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Egypt, Cameroon, DR Congo, Chad, Kenya, Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Uganda, Zimbabwe and hosts Tunisia.

The 25th edition of the continental championship will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Championship, with the top three teams earning direct qualification.
