Former Mukura Victory Sports assistant coach Thierry Nimubona has died after battling an illness.

The Burundian coach joined Mukura in July 2024 and served on the club’s technical staff for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

"We received this sad news early this morning from his family back home. We are looking forward to supporting and consoling his family during this difficult moment,” Mukura managing director Protais Musoni told Times Sport.

Nimubona worked under a technical staff led by Tunisian coach Lotfi Afahmia. However, Mukura endured a difficult campaign, finishing fifth in the Rwanda Premier League, one place lower than their fourth-place finish in the 2023/24 season.

Before joining Mukura, Nimubona had a lengthy coaching career in Burundi, where he worked with several clubs, including Vital’O FC, Olympic Star, Buja City, Delta Star and Flambeau de l’Est.
