Students in boarding schools across Rwanda will return to school between September 3 and 6, the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) said.

The return follows the two-month end-of-year holiday, which began on July 3. According to the back-to-school travel timetable released on September 1, students will resume classes for the first term on September 7.

The first term will run for 15 weeks and end on December 18.

Back-to-school travel schedule

Students from different districts have been assigned specific travel dates as part of a staggered return-to-school arrangement.

Students going to schools located in Ruhango, Gisagara, Ngororero, Musanze, Nyagatare and Gatsibo will travel on September 3, while students going to Nyanza, Kamonyi, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Burera, Rwamagana and Kayonza will return on September 4.

On September 5, students going to schools based in Huye, Nyamagabe, Karongi, Rutsiro, Rulindo, Gakenke, Ngoma and Kirehe are scheduled to travel, followed by those going to Muhanga, Nyaruguru, Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Gicumbi, Bugesera, Nyarugenge, Gasabo and Kicukiro, who will return on September 6.

NESA has urged students and parents to follow the travel dates to ensure an orderly return to school. Students are required to travel while wearing their school uniforms.

Parents have also been urged to ensure their children leave early enough and provide them with adequate transport fare.

District and sector education officials have been tasked with monitoring the exercise and ensuring schools are ready to receive students.

For students travelling from Kigali or those transiting through the capital on their way to schools in other provinces, buses will depart from Kigali Pelé Stadium.

NESA said access to the stadium will be time-bound, with the facility closing at 3pm.
