Rwanda is expected to experience largely dry and warmer-than-normal conditions in September, with rainfall forecast to remain below the long-term average, according to Meteo Rwanda.
The weather agency’s September 2026 forecast shows that daytime temperatures will range between 22°C and 33°C, while night-time temperatures are expected to range from 10°C to 20°C.

Both daytime and night-time temperatures are expected to be slightly above the long-term mean for September.
Rainfall during the month is forecast to range between 20mm and 120mm, below the long-term average range of 35mm to 213mm.
The first 10 days of September are also expected to remain largely dry, with sunny intervals during the daytime. Rainfall during the period is forecast to range between below 5mm and 30mm across the country, also below the long-term average.

The highest temperatures, ranging from 31°C to 33°C, are expected in Bugesera, parts of Kigali, Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Kayonza and Ngoma, as well as parts of Rwamagana, Kirehe, the Amayaga region and Bugarama plain.
Meanwhile, the lowest daytime temperatures, ranging from 22°C to 24°C, are expected in western Musanze and northwestern Nyabihu.
At night, temperatures as low as 10°C to 12°C are expected in parts of Musanze, Nyaruguru, Nyabihu, Nyamagabe and Rusizi.

The warmest nights, with temperatures between 18°C and 20°C, are expected in parts of Kigali, Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Kirehe and Bugarama plain.
Despite the generally dry outlook, some parts of the country are expected to receive relatively higher rainfall.
Meteo Rwanda forecasts between 80mm and 120mm in parts of Musanze and Rubavu, as well as western and northern parts of Burera and Nyabihu.
Other parts of the country, particularly in the Western and Northern provinces, are expected to receive between 50mm and 80mm.
The agency also warned of strong winds in some areas, with wind speeds of between 8 and 12 metres per second expected in parts of Rubavu, Rutsiro, Karongi and Nyamasheke.
For the first ten days of September, Meteo Rwanda expects strong winds of the same intensity in eastern Rubavu, western Karongi, northern Nyamasheke and parts of Rutsiro.
It advised residents, particularly in Nyamasheke, Karongi, Rutsiro, Rusizi and Rubavu, to take preventive measures against possible impacts of strong winds.
Meteo Rwanda said moderate to strong winds of between 4 and 12 metres per second are expected across the country during the month.
