Traditional dances, poetry and the sharing of familiar Rwandan food brought the spirit of home to Rwanda’s Embassy in Rabat on Saturday, August 29, as Rwandans gathered to celebrate Umuganura.

The celebration of the National Harvest Day, hosted by Rwanda’s Ambassador to Morocco, Shakilla Kazimbaya Umutoni, brought together mainly young Rwandans studying in Morocco, giving them an opportunity to reconnect with their culture.

Children were also given milk, reflecting the importance placed on nurturing the country’s future generations.

Umutoni reminded the young Rwandans of the values associated with Umuganura, including patriotism, integrity, hard work and unity.

She also encouraged them to remain connected to their culture and uphold Rwandan values wherever they live.

Umuganura is marked throughout August by Rwandans at home and abroad. It provides an opportunity to celebrate achievements, give thanks and reflect on aspirations for the future.

For Rwandans living outside the country, such gatherings also provide a space to pass cultural traditions on to younger generations and maintain a sense of connection with home.

The national celebration on August 7 was held under the 2026 theme, "Umuganura, the source of unity and foundation for self-reliance.”
