Rescuers were still looking for survivors on Thursday, August 27, after a massive flash flood destroyed homes, roads and bridges on the Nepal-Tibet border.

More than 1,300 people were missing and at least 270 died in Nepal, with rescue efforts complicated by rain and geography, media reports said.

In China's Tibet, at least 558 people were reported missing, with three confirmed dead.

On both sides of the border, hundreds of foreign nationals were reported missing, including 178 tourists from India, 127 from Nepal, 65 Americans, 35 Australians, and 33 from the UK, according to Nepalese officials.

The US Geological Survey said "glacial collapse and debris flow" triggered the floods - and there are fears that debris in rivers could cause fresh flooding.
