Rwanda have been drawn alongside Algeria, DR Congo and Burundi in Pool D of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from August 25 to September 5.

The draw presents Rwanda with a potentially favourable route to the knockout stage, although Algeria are expected to provide the biggest test in the group.

Algeria won the African title in 2009, while their most recent major achievement came in 2015, when they finished runners-up after losing to hosts Kenya in the final.

Rwanda will be looking to build on their impressive showing at the 2023 edition, where they finished fourth after losing to Cameroon in a four-set bronze-medal playoff.

The Rwandan team, coached by French tactician Frédéric Guérin, will be aiming to progress from the group stage and challenge for a place in the latter stages of the continental competition.

Elsewhere, hosts and defending champions Kenya, who have won the championship a record 10 times, have been drawn in Pool A alongside Mali and Zambia.

Pool B features Egypt, Uganda, Burkina Faso and Senegal, while Pool C comprises Cameroon, Nigeria, Tunisia and Ghana.

Kenya will face Zambia in the opening match of the championship on Tuesday at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
