Police and Rutsiro Athletic Clubs emerged as the dominant teams in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, at the 2026 National Athletics Championship held at Amahoro Stadium on Sunday, August 23.

A total of 253 athletes from eight clubs competed in the championship, with Police AC topping the overall men’s standings after collecting 13 gold medals, five silver and 10 bronze medals.

Rutsiro AC, meanwhile, dominated the women’s category, winning five gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals.

The eight participating clubs were APR AC, Police AC, Sina Gerard AC, UR Huye AC, Rutsiro AC, Kavumu AC, Ecole Primaire Taba AC and Nyaraguru AC.

In the men’s rankings, Rutsiro AC finished second behind Police AC after securing five gold medals, six silver medals and four bronze medals. APR AC completed the top three with two gold medals, six silver medals and four bronze medals.

In the women’s standings, APR AC emerged second with two gold medals, four silver and six bronze while Nyaruguru AC took third place with one gold medal and two bronze medals.
