Fourteen learners have emerged as the top performers in the 2025/26 national examinations, with eight from the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and six from Ordinary Level, posting scores of up to 99.6 per cent.
The results, released on Thursday, August 20, showed strong performances among the highest-ranked candidates at both levels, with learners from Bugesera, Gasabo, Nyarugenge, Muhanga, Kamonyi, Nyamasheke and Ruhango featuring among the top performers.

PLE top performers
At the Primary Leaving Examination level, Bruno Ricky Rwego Mutijima of Ecole Internationale La Racine in Bugesera emerged as the highest-scoring candidate, with a weighted score of 99.6 per cent.
He was followed by seven candidates who each scored 99.4 per cent.
They include Pacifique Ntwali Ngabo of Wisdom Centre in Bugesera, Annie Ineza Singizwa Musengimana of Ecole Internationale La Racine in Bugesera, and Aimee Albine Byoseniyo of Kigali Harvest School in Gasabo.

Also recording 99.4 per cent were Hugo Irumva Bigwi of APACOPE in Nyarugenge, Ella Jesca Ingabire and Ivan Shingiro Muhimba, both of Saint Andre in Muhanga, and Ivan Cyusa Mugisha of Ecole Les Rossignols in Kamonyi.
The results placed Bugesera among the districts with multiple candidates in the top positions, with three of the eight highest-ranked PLE candidates coming from schools in the district.
O-Level top performers
At Ordinary Level, Leontine Uwamariya of ISF Nyamasheke recorded the highest score 98.7 per cent.
She shared the top score with Olla Musonga Isimbi of FAWE Girls School in Gasabo, who also recorded 98.7 per cent.
They were followed by Joel Ganza of Saint Ignatius High School in Gasabo, with 98.6 per cent.
Milton Uwitonze Kefa of College Saint Andre in Nyarugenge recorded 98.4 per cent, while Richard Kwizera Mukwiye and Divine Uwase, both of Ecole des Sciences Byimana in Ruhango, each scored 98.3 per cent.
Nationwide, 85.7 per cent of 149,015 candidates who sat the examinations at Ordinary Level passed.
At primary level, 88.21 per cent of 276,579 candidates who sat the PLE passed.
The top-performing candidates were announced alongside broader national examination results, which showed improvements in several subjects but also declines in some areas compared with the previous academic year.
