Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup after beating Aston Villa 2-1 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, on Wednesday.

The match carried a special significance for Rwanda, with both teams being partners of Visit Rwanda.

The victory handed Luis Enrique his 13th trophy as PSG coach as the UEFA Champions League winners overcame Europa League champions Aston Villa to claim another European title.

PSG took the lead in the 20th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Aston Villa responded just before half-time, with 17-year-old Brian Madjo scoring in the 45th minute to restore parity and become the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Super Cup history.

PSG regained the lead in the 61st minute when Ousmane Dembélé set up Désiré for the match-winning goal.

Villa pushed for another equaliser, but PSG held on to secure victory and retain the UEFA Super Cup.

It was also a historic occasion for the referee. Somali official Omar Artan took charge of the encounter, becoming the first non-European referee to officiate a UEFA Super Cup.
