Rwanda and Armenia have expressed a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with both countries identifying technology, innovation and political dialogue as areas of potential cooperation.

The commitment was made on Tuesday, August 11, in Yerevan, where Rwanda’s Ambassador Maj. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita presented his Letters of Credence to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, formally accrediting him as non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia.

Speaking during the ceremony, President Khachaturyan said Armenia wants to give fresh momentum to relations with Rwanda.

"It is very important that we activate the relations between our two countries,” he said.

He called for stronger political dialogue and the exploration of opportunities for bilateral cooperation in several areas, particularly artificial intelligence, high technologies and innovation.

The Armenian president also pointed to cooperation within the International Organisation of La Francophonie and platforms bringing together landlocked countries as other areas where the two countries could work together.

Nzabamwita, who is also Rwanda’s ambassador to other countries with residence in Russia, conveyed greetings from President Paul Kagame to his Armenian counterpart and expressed gratitude for the reception.

The accreditation builds on previous efforts to expand cooperation, particularly in technology between Kigali and Yerevan.

In September 2025, a Rwandan delegation led by the Minister of State in the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, Yves Iradukunda, met Armenia’s Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, with both sides discussing closer collaboration in advanced technology and innovation.

The discussions focused on areas including cybersecurity, technology education, innovation, joint projects and technology-driven economic development.
