APR FC have informed the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) that they will not participate in the 2026 FERWAFA Super Cup, citing concerns over changes to the competition’s format and what the club described as inadequate consultation with participating teams.

The club communicated its decision in a formal letter submitted to FERWAFA on Monday, August 10, outlining the reasons behind its withdrawal from the tournament, which is scheduled for August 22 and 28.

FERWAFA Secretary General Bonnie Mugabe confirmed that the federation had received the letter from APR FC and said the concerns raised by the defending champions would be reviewed before a decision is made on the next course of action.

"We received the letter yesterday evening (Monday, August 10) from the APR FC secretariat. Their reasons will be reviewed, and you will be informed of the next steps in the coming days,” Mugabe said.

In its correspondence, APR FC argued that the club was not informed in advance about the decision to change the format of the Super Cup, which it said disrupted its planning and preparations for the 2026/27 season.

The army side also maintained that participating clubs were not adequately consulted before the changes were approved.

According to APR FC, proper consultations would have allowed the clubs to contribute to the decision-making process and gain a better understanding of the tournament’s format and benefits.

The club also pointed to scheduling conflicts, saying that by the time it was informed about the revised competition plans, it had already arranged a series of friendly matches as part of its preparations for the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.

The 2026 FERWAFA Super Cup was initially expected to feature APR FC, Rayon Sports, Kiyovu Sports and Police FC. The tournament is scheduled to be played on August 22 and 28.

APR FC won the previous edition after defeating arch-rivals Rayon Sports 4-1.
