Mukura Victory Sports are on the verge of appointing experienced Serbian tactician Momčilo "Moma" Medić as their new head coach.

Medić, who is currently in Rwanda, attended Mukura's training session in Huye on Wednesday evening, where he observed the players and technical staff as talks over his appointment entered the final stages.

Source within the club have told Times Sport that the coach has been impressed by Mukura’s football project and may welcome the opportunity to coach the team.

The Serbian brings extensive coaching experience from across the African continent.

He is best known for his successful spell in Burundi, where he guided Flambeau du Centre to the 2021/22 Burundi Premier League title. He also managed fellow Burundian clubs Messager Ngozi and Royal Eagle.

Beyond Burundi, Medić worked in South Africa as an assistant coach at Orlando Pirates before taking charge of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM). His coaching career has also taken him to Ghana, where he managed King Faisal and Ashanti Gold, building an impressive résumé across several African leagues.

Mukura resumed their search for a head coach after Czech tactician Tomáš Trucha terminated his three-year contract just 24 hours after arriving in Rwanda to take charge of the club in July.

If appointed, Medić will inherit a squad undergoing significant changes. Mukura have already lost two key figures, with attacking midfielder Elie Tatou Iradukunda joining Rayon Sports and captain Nicholas Ssebwato completing a move to Southern Province rivals Amagaju FC.

Ssebwato's transfer adds another layer of intrigue to one of Rwanda's fiercest regional rivalries, with meetings between Mukura and Amagaju among the most anticipated Southern Province derbies.
