Liberal Party (PL) has paid tribute to its chairperson Senator Donatille Mukabalisa, who passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, following an illness.

"The leadership of the Liberal Party (PL) is saddened to inform its members and Rwandans in general that its Chairperson, Donatille Mukabalisa, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, due to illness,” the party said in a statement.

The 66-year-old lawmaker died while receiving treatment at King Faisal Hospital.

The party extended its condolences to Mukabalisa’s family, PL members, the Parliament of Rwanda, her colleagues, Rwandans, and all those who knew her.

"May she rest in eternal peace,” the statement added.

Mukabalisa served as chairperson of the Liberal Party from 2016, becoming the first woman to lead the party.

She remained in the role while serving in senior legislative positions, including as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and later as Senator.
