Rwanda Institute of Computing (RIC), a new specialized institution dedicated to advanced training in Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity, is expected to launch in September under the University of Rwanda.

A Cabinet meeting on Friday, July 24, approved the establishment of the institute which aims to strengthen the country's pipeline of high-skilled technology talent.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Prime Minister, RIC will "develop Rwanda's next generation of technology leaders."

Building on the success of Rwanda Coding Academy, the institute will provide a seamless pathway to advanced computing education and further strengthen Rwanda's talent pipeline for the digital economy.

The establishment of RIC was presented to the Cabinet alongside other digital transformation initiatives aimed at advancing Rwanda’s transition to a knowledge-based, cashless, and digitally driven economy.

These initiatives include modernizing telecommunications infrastructure by upgrading from 2G/3G to 4G/5G networks and rolling out eKash, an interoperable national digital payment platform designed to accelerate financial inclusion and digital transactions.
