Kirehe VC outside hitter Munyinya Mugisha has received his maiden senior national team call-up after being named in Rwanda's provisional squad for the 2026 CAVB African Nations Championship.

The 19-year-old is among 21 players selected by Rwanda men's national volleyball team head coach Frédéric Guérin ahead of the continental tournament.

Mugisha is the only member of Rwanda's squad from the 2025 CAVB U20 African Nations Volleyball Championship in Egypt to earn a place in the senior provisional team, highlighting his rapid rise through the national ranks.

Widely regarded as one of Rwanda's brightest volleyball prospects, the Kirehe VC outside hitter enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 National Volleyball League campaign.

Following the season, he joined Police VC as a guest player for the 2026 Genocide Memorial Tournament and the Liberation Cup, helping the club secure bronze and silver medals, respectively.

The provisional squad also includes experienced players such as Crispin Ntanteteri, Ivan Mahoro, Enzo Ganza, Samuel Niyomugisha, Willy Rukundo, D'Amour Munyamahoro, Yves Mutabazi, Merci Gisubizo, Eric Kwizera and Simon Rwigema.

Also selected are Alain Irakoze, Santere Mugisha, Wicklif Dusenge, Venuste Gatsinzi, Kenny Ntawiha, Emmy Twagirayezu, Prince Kanamugire, John Nkurunziza, Frank Shyaka and Alex Rwanyonga.

Guérin will be assisted by Fred Musoni and Dominique Ntawangundi, while Police VC middle blocker Placide Sibomana has been appointed the team's physical trainer, becoming the only active player in Rwandan volleyball to serve in that role with the senior national team.

The provisional squad is scheduled to begin an intensive training camp on Monday, July 20, as preparations get underway for the African Nations Championship.
